You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances,
the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself.
That is something you have charge of.
Change can be exciting and scary all at the same time. We seem to either jump in feet first or remain paralyzed with fear. And unfortunately as adults we have lost the ability to truly dream. Do you remember as a child when an adult asked you, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” you probably shouted back without hesitation, “a superhero!” “a policeman!” “a pilot!” “an astronaut!” “a model!” “a professional athlete!” “the President of the United States!” But somewhere over the years, those dreams faded either because we talked ourselves out of it or others told us our dreams were unreasonable.
So here is my question to you, if you could have optimal health would you choose it? This means you could physically do whatever you wanted without limitations and you were at your best weigh. Well of course you would! Today I want you to dream a little and if you haven’t done this in a while it might be a bit difficult. Take some time in a quiet spot to really think this through these questions – I’d LOVE to hear your responses!
- If you were at your goal weight, what would you do that you aren’t doing now? Maybe it’s a sport, a vacation, playing on the floor with kids or grandkids, maybe it’s enjoying shopping again (those dressing room mirrors do nothing for self-esteem when you are overweight!), or perhaps it’s just to be able to smile again. That THING that you would enjoy is what will pull you towards your ultimate health goal. Write it down, put a picture on your phone, make a vision board…you need to be able to see an image of it daily.
- Keep the end in mind. At your 90th birthday party, what will those that love you the most say about how you spent your life? Did you live it to the fullest? Did you go after your dreams? Were you always stressed? Did you spend time on things that mattered most to you or did you sacrifice yourself and your health for those around you?
- What means the most to you in your life? Is it family, a job, a pet…what would happen if you no longer had it in your life? Are you able to enjoy it to the fullest given your current health situation? If not, what could change it?
- How would getting healthy change the lives of those that love you the most?
You see, we all have a choice. You can choose to remain content and follow the path of 69% of Americans who are overweight or obese. Or you can CHOOSE HEALTH and begin learning HOW to make changes to put you on a different trajectory.
