Sounds like a loaded question, doesn’t it? And it might depend on what “IF” pertains to. This morning I’m reflecting on the IF:Gathering held over this past weekend here in Austin. Did you go? I wanted to attend an IF:Local event, but our family was pre-committed to our homeschool coop’s production of Peter Pan. However, I learned on Saturday night after IF ended that you could watch the recorded sessions free until midnight PST on Sunday. So I spent several hours yesterday watching and listening to the entire weekend of videos. All I can say is…WOW! I was blown away by the testimonies, stories, and prayers offered for those live and via simulcast and even those watching videos delayed like me. I had so many take aways and yet I think God impressed on me a very specific message…put your feet in the water and GO! Don’t be like the doubting Israelites who were fearful of the inhabitants, fortified cities and unknowns of the Promised Land. Freedom was so near, yet they were ready to go back to slavery and bondage instead of facing the unknowns of promised blessings ahead of them. Aren’t we so similar? We eagerly settle for the known and seemingly comfortable status quo even if it’s boring, painful, frustrating and ho hum.
What IF God has more planned for you, but you are too fearful of the unknown and lack faith to trust Him to LET GO of what you are holding so tight today in order to move forward and claim the blessings God has waiting for you? His word tells us that He will not leave us or forsake us (Deut. 31:6).
This message has been stirring in my heart for some time and it’s something that I feel I’ve lacked obedience in pursuing. So today, I stand as the Israelites did with my toes in the water and taking that first step. And I am so grateful for the ministry and vision that stirred in the hearts of the leaders of the IF:Gathering…for my life has been changed and I trust that change will affect generations that follow me as I will share stories of His mercies and blessings in my lifetime.
